MEAT vendors in Manila are being urged by Mayor Isko Moreno to follow the government-set price ceiling and to be content with the fact that they still get to earn in the middle of a pandemic, saying he does not want to see anybody losing their means of livelihood because of violations.
Reacting to reports that some vendors are having a hard time following the said price ceilings citing their own reasons for the marked up prices, Moreno said the city finds the situation a ‘difficult, balancing act.’
“Dapat magkasisa ang producer, middleman at vendor. May guidelines na ang national government about the price cap so kailangan sundin or else, me pananagutan kung sinuman ang di susunod,” Moreno said.
He added: “Dini-diplomasya namin hanggat maari, but we are sure and certain about our rules… if they violate, baka mawalan din sila ng hanapbuhay.”
Moreno said the city government’s utmost concern is the welfare and interest of the cosumers or the buying public.
The mayor said the local government has to perform a ‘balancing act’ that would put into consideration the earnings of the producers and those of the vendors and the protection of the buying public.
He called on the vendors to do some sacrifice amid the pandemic.
