SEAMEN who will be victimized by unscrupulous agencies or recruiters based in Manila will be helped by the city government to get justice.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno gave the assurance after he attended the recent Seaman’s Convention held in Pasay City where he was the guest speaker.
Moreno said when he was young he yearned to become a seaman one day to have a better life for him and his family. However, he entered showbiz instead.
He assured seamen applicants of help as long as the agency involved is Manila-based. He also asked seamen who were processing their papers at their specific agencies to keep the city surroundings clean.
Moreno specifically cited T.M. Kalaw Avenue and the former Masagana establishment on Taft Avenue where seamen applicants converged. He said street sweepers had been unusually busy all day sweeping the area of trash left behind by the applicants.
“Pakiusap ko lang sana, itapon nyo lang sa tamang sisidlan ang basura ninyo. Tulungan nyo kami sa paglilinis na ginagawa namin sa Maynila,” he said.
