MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday greeted the members of the Chinese-Filipino community on the celebration of the Chinese New Year today (January 25).

‘Itong taong etneb etneb (2020) nawa ay magkaroon tayo ng clear vision. I hope that with your help, maging successful tayo  at mapanatag natin ang mamamayan sa lungsod,’ Moreno said in his message to the Chinese-Filipino community.

Moreno also cited the Chinese-Filipino community members as a vital part of the city’s progress.

The mayor said that with the businesses they operate in the city, the Chinoys are a big help to the residents whom they hire,  thus creating jobs.

Too, Moreno said that the taxes they pay contribute greatly to the city’s economic status and subsequently to Manila’s progress as well.

Meanwhile, Moreno has assured the city residents, particularly those who will be joining the celebration of the Chinese New Year, that security will be provided to the hilt in anticipation of thousands of revelers who will troop to Chinatown for the said occasion.

He said the Manila Police District assured that uniformed policemen will be deployed in the Chinatown area to maintain peace and order.

The mayor also directed the Manila Traffic Police Bureau (MTPB) to farm out a sufficient number of traffic enforcers to aid the police in maintaining traffic throughout the day.

Moreno reminded the revelers to keep their valuables close or, if possible, avoid bringing too much cash and jewelry so as not to attract petty criminals such as pickpockets, snatchers and thieves.
