February 06, 2019

AN 11-year-old Grade V student who was among those refusing to heed warnings against swimming in the Manila Bay,  cheated death when he almost drowned the other day.

A report from the Manila Police District identified the boy only as ‘Rhiane,’ of M. Adriatico Street in Malate, Manila.  He remains under observation at the Ospital ng Maynila.

A probe by SPO2 Mark Xrus Santos said that the boy almost drowned last February 5, at around 10:15 a.m. A commotion at the Manila Bay area reportedly drew the attention of authorities.

Fortunately, the boy was found and was rushed to the nearest hospital by an ambulance from the MMDA.

It was learned that before the incident, the victim and his friends went swimming at the Manila Bay.  When the victim failed to resurface, his companions began shouting for help.

Health and police authorities have been warning against swimming in the said bay since its waters have not been declared clean and safe for swimming.
