AS in past years, former Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim once again led residents of Tondo’s first district in kicking off the celebration of the feast of the Sto. Niño yesterday through the traditional ‘Lakbayaw’ procession where he walked for hours along with the other participants.
Lim was joined by his family, friends, throngs of supporters led by his chief of staff Ric de Guzman and ticketmates that included his candidates for councilor led by ex-Councilor Roland Sy, Atty. Eugene Santiago, Paul dela Cruz and his daughter Cristy, among others. He was mobbed by the residents who lined up the streets to watch the procession and even by those who participated themselves.
De Guzman said the Tondo residents showed the same overwhelming support as when he was the mayor and they vowed to fully back the ex-mayor until election day, citing his being a genuine Tondo resident, among others.
Lim continues to maintain their ancestral home on Sgt. Mabagos Street, a few minutes walk from the Sto. Nino Church.
Residents holding up their Sto. Nino images clad in colorful attires during the procession also took time out to take pictures of and with Lim. The procession was at least a seven-hour walk from the Sto.Nino Church onto the numerous streets which lead back to the church, including Juan Luna, Velasquez, Herbosa, Pritil, Bangkusay, Perla, Moriones, Recto, Asuncion and Wagas, among others.
As this went on, the thousands of residents joining and watching the procession continuously chanted, ‘Mayor Lim! Mayor Lim!’ to the delight of Lim who gamely posed with those requesting for a picturesg with him.
A true-blue resident of Tondo, Lim never fails to join the said procession and the yearly celebration of the Feast of Sto. Nino.
