A man allegedly involved in robbery incidents in Marikina was killed while his companion was injured after they allegedly grabbed the gun of an intelligence officer who was reportedly conducting surveillance operation in Marikina City Saturday evening , police said yesterday.
In a belated report gathered from Marikina Police chief, Col. Restituto Arcanghel, the slain suspect was identified as Kim Lester Ramos, 23, single, construction worker and resident of No, 37 Mt. Kennedy St., Mountain View, Bgy .Sta Elena, Marikina City.
Arcanghel said Ramos was killed on the spot after he sustained a lone gunshot wound in the head.
The injured suspect was identified as Lauro Lagaote, 22, single, also residing at Mountain View Subd, Bgy Elena, Marikina City. He suffered gunshot wound in the stomach and now confined at the ARMCC.
The cop was identified as PCpl.Herjonner Soller, member of Marikina Police Station Intelligence Section.
Initial investigation showed that prior to the incident, Cpl Soller who was riding his motorcycle was conducting surveillance operation along Bgy.Sta.Elena Saturday when he spotted the two suspects on board a motorcycle and two other men in separate motorcycle at around 6:30 pm.
“Sinita daw nya yung apat at isa dun ay si Ramos na kakilala nya na sangkot sa robbery cases sa lugar, at sinabihan nya ito na “baka kung ano ang lakad nyo,” Arcanghel said.
After their conversation , the cop left and proceeded to the Marikina Police Station for his duty .However Ramos and Lagaote allegedly went after the cop and cornered him in a dimly lit portion of Mt. Holy St. Bgy Sta Elena.
“Nung umalis yung pulis hinabol nung dalawa ito nung maabutan nakatumba na sa kalsada yung pulis at kanyang sinasakyang motor,” Arcanghel explained.
At this juncture,the two suspects allegedly grabbed the service pistol of said policeman a .9 mm pistol.
According to report, the three scuffled for the gun which “accidentally went off” and hit Lagaote the stomach. Suspect Ramos tried to flee and pulled out his gun, forcing the cop to shoot him in the head causing his instantaneous death.
A .38 caliber was seized from the slain suspect, who was reportedly involved in numerous cases of robbery in the city.
“Tumawag agad ng back-up yung pulis natin, at ang rescue 161 ay kaagad namang nagresponde sa area,” Marikina police said.
Arcanghel said, Cpl Soller surrendered his service firearm. He was placed under restricted custody pending the result of the investigation.
