ELEMENTS of Highway Patrol Group (HPG) arrested a man involved in rent-sangla, rent-tangay, victimizing his classmates and friends during their operation the other day in Makati.
HPG director Chief Supt. Roberto B. Fajardo identified the suspect as Ronald Agaton Punzalan, from Batangas.
Reports reaching Camp Crame said the suspect was arrested at around 3 p.m. at Glorietta 5, Makati City, based on a warrant for two counts of estafa and one count of carnapping.
Accordingly, the suspect, together with a certain Luisito Villanueva Balinong, went to the area to settle and purchase a piece of land by a complainant.
After confirmation of the identity of the suspect, Senior Insp. Rube Mission III, together with other members of the team, arrived and arrested the suspect.
Fajardo lauded the accomplishment of the team to go allout against all criminals in adherence to the call of PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde for effective police operation.
“Si Ronald Punzalan, ito ’yung hinuli ng NCR HPG with nine counts of estafa and carnapping involved in rent sangla, rent tangay and ang mga biktima niya ay mismong classmates, barkada, ka-brod n’ya, mga taga-Batangas,” Fajardo said.
He said one of the suspect’s modus operandi is to rent a car and then sell or pawn it for higher amount.
Fajardo said the suspects took at least P7 million from one of his victims.
As of press time, Fajardo said at least 10 complainants went to the HPG office in Camp Crame to file formal complaint against the suspect.
