A 56-year-old caretaker was shot dead by still unidentified gunman Sunday evening in Navotas City.
Navotas police chief P/Col. Rolando Balasabas said Hercules Bernardo, Jr. of 33 Sioson St., Bgy. Dampalit succumbed to a lone bullet wound in the chest while being rushed to Malabon City Hospital.
Investigation showed that while the victim was attending the wake of his friend at 21 Jasmin St. Bgy. Tanza 2 at around 10:15 p.m. and was having conversation with others who were also at the wake when the suspect suddenly appeared and without a word shot him once in the chest.
After the incident, the gunman immediately escaped on foot towards an unknown direction,
Homicide investigator P/MSgt. Aurelio Galvez said elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered from the crime scene an empty shell for still unknown caliber of firearm which will be submitted to PNP Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination.
