MAYOR Isko Moreno bared that one of the drivers earlier accosted in Manila for traffic violations has 12 driver’s licenses which continue to be unredeemed at the City Hall, while others have five or six.
‘Gusto mong sumikat ha, mga kababayan, eto po si Joey Lasco Batilan, tino-tolongges po nito ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Maynila,’ Moreno said, as he disclosed that based on a report from Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) chief Denis Viaje, City Hall has in its custody 12 licenses under the name of Batilan who was accosted for various traffic violations from 2013 to 2016.
Moreno said Batilan’s licenses were among the 50,000 unclaimed drivers’ licenses that have been with the MTPB since 2003.
Still citing Viaje’s report, Moreno said that Batilan’s case was not unique since several others were found with five to six confiscated licenses, adding that none of those with multiple licenses have come forward to claim them at City Hall.
‘Paano nangyari na may lisensiya si Batilan na nahuli noong 2013, pagkatapos umano ay may lisensiya siya ulit ng dalawa noong 2014? Hindi ninyo na kami matotolonges ngayon sa Maynila,’ Moreno stressed.
Moreno said he had entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) where the office of Viaje is being given access to the LTO’s system so that traffic enforcers can easily verify the status of licenses of drivers who are accosted for various traffic violations.
Meantime, Viaje said that an amnesty had been given by the mayor for the accosted drivers to get their confiscated licenses from the MTPB and that so far, 100 have already claimed theirs.
