MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday reminded Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) not to converge in Manila in the hope of getting assistance from the government as they might get infected with COVID-19 from asymptomatic city residents already exposed to the virus.

“Wag nyo ipagbakasali na nandito kayo at stranded kayo. ’Wag kayo bubuhos dito. Kayo ay maaring malagay sa panganib na mahawa sa aming mga taga-Maynila at ito ay madala nyo sa probinsiya sa pagkalat at pagdi-dikit nyo. Sa kabilang banda, obligasyon kong panatiliing ligtas ang mga kababayan ko sa lungsod at maaring kayo naman ay may dalang virus din papasok naman ng Maynila,” Moreno said in his appeal to LSIs surging in Manila.

Moreno noticed the increasing number of LSIs availing the local government’s “Balik-Probinsiya Program”.

Moreno said the LSIs come in huge numbers without any confirmed tickets or certainty that they can go back to their provinces, thus, exposing themselves to the danger of COVID transmission, especially since most of them do not wear facemasks and do not observe social distancing.

Manila had been accommodating LSIs, the latest batch numbering 200 were staying in Rizal Park, T.M. Kalaw and Pier.

“Kung kayo ay maga-avail ng ‘’Balik Probinsiya Program,’siguraduhin n’yo ang petsa, na ang tiket ay hawak nyo na at importante na kayo ay mayroon nang health clearance bago kayo magpunta ng Maynila,” Moreno said, noting that that based on interviews, the LSIs went to Manila in the hope of getting a ride home even without any confirmation.

“I have to be honest with you. Hindi na po namin kayo kayang tanggapin dahil ako ay may obligasyon pa sa mga mamamayan sa lungsod na nahihirapan din. Nakokonsumo nyo na po ang aming maliit na kakayanan and it’s quite unfair to the people of Manila. ”You will be safer if you remain in your homes and wait for information from organizers of the ‘Balik Probinsiya’ program when you can be ferried to your respective provinces,” Moreno added.
