BATUAN, Ticao Island, Masbate Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III was killed while his nephew and aide were wounded when four armed men fired at him while he was at an eatery on Vicente Cruz Street in Sampaloc, Manila.
Yuson, 56, was declared dead-on-arrival at the UST Hospital due to multiple gunshots in different parts of the body. His nephew Alberto, 23, and aide Alfredo Pineda , 44, an equipment agent, of 100 Heroes Del 96, Caloocan City, were wounded.
Manila Police District Director PNGen Vicente Danao, Jr. said all four suspects were arrested. One of them is reportedly from San Fernando,Ticao Island,Masbate and resides in a resort said to be owned by a ranking government official.
Barangay chairman Charlie Yuson, Jr., the victim’s brother, said that the victim had been the OIC Mayor in the said provincial town and had been in Manila for the past five days just to buy a backhoe that could be used in the province.
The chairman said his brother had been getting death threats and suspects that politics may have been the motive behind his brother’s slay.
A probe by PCMS Jonathan Bautista of the Manila Police District-homicide section said that the incident took place at 8:45 a.m. at an eatery located at 168 Vicente Cruz Street in Sampaloc, while the victim was having breakfast with his aides and nephew.
The suspects were subsequently arrested in a dragnet operation. A barangay chairman witnessed the incident and radioed PColonel Robert Domingo, noting the plate number of the van used —ACM-8804— which was relayed to other police stations as well.
