Metro cops boost bilibid force

NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office director Major General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar yesterday said he has sent a total of 551 NCRPO personnel to the New Bilibid Prisons to help Bureau of Corrections Director Gerald Bantag in undertaking “aggressive and massive reforms” in the national penitentiary which is being hounded by charges that powerful and moneyed convicted drug lords continue to operate inside by bribing guards and officials.

Eleazar said that the battalion-size NCRPO strike force will replace existing NBP guards who were ordered replaced by Bantag. The latter sought the help of Interior Secretary Eduardo M. Año and Philippine National Police chief General Oscar D. Albayalde on police augmentation at the NBP.

The NCRPO chief said that the 551 Metro Manila policemen will assist in the conduct of special operations in Bilibid including the checking of drugs, weapons and other contraband.

They will also help in securing Bantag and other personnel of the BuCor who would be implementing drastic changes in the Bilibid.

“The metro cops at the Bilibid will be temporary only while Director Bantag conducts a retraining and evaluation of his personnel,” said Eleazar.

The NCRPO chief said he will be Director Bantag’s partner to ensure that all the instructions given to new BuCor director by President Duterte are effectively carried out.

During their meeting last Friday at the NBP, Bantag briefed Eleazar on the security plans he crafted not only to ensure peace and order at the NBP but also to get rid of the modus operandi of convicted felons, particularly those engaged in illegal drugs activities.

Eleazar also discussed with Bantag several measures to intensify intelligence-sharing particularly the establishment of a liaison office of NCR Quad Intel Force.

The NCR Quad Intel Force is the sub-units NCR from four major government law enforcement agencies: the PNP, National Bureau of Investigation NCR, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency NCR and Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Joint Task Force NCR.

He said that a united government stand will help thwart any attempt of any convicted drug lords to communicate with their tentacles, especially those in uniform, outside the NBP for the continuation of their drug operations.

“Do not even dare to destroy the trust given to us by the BuCor leadership. You are here to help Director General Bantag to get rid of corruption and other illegal operations here as instructed by the President,” Eleazar told his men deployed at the NBP.

“This is your chance to contribute in reforming the NBP, this is your chance for greatest contribution to the BuCor, to the PNP, and to the Philippine Government,” he added.

Eleazar also assured that Intensified Cleanliness Policy of the NCRPO will continue to prevent the policemen accepting bribes from convicts.
