THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) lifted the number coding scheme of provincial buses starting today, December 21 up to January 2 next year.
MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said the lifting of Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or the number coding for provincial buses is needed in anticipation of a large number of passengers who will be going to their respective provinces to spend Christmas.
However, Garcia said private vehicles are not covered by the suspension of number coding except on December 24 and 25 and on December 30 and January 1 next year which were declared regular holidays.
Meanwhile, the MMDA will be on full alert status today in anticipation of “carmageddon” along EDSA and other main roads for the last minute Christmas rush.
“Last Friday na po ito ng holiday season. Nasa labas na po lahat ng tao n’yan, ‘yung mga huling hirit na shopping, Christmas party,” MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said.
Garcia said the agency ordered all their traffic enforcers to extend their tour of duty today to help resolve traffic related incidents faster as motorists were advised to brace for heavy traffic.
