MANILA Third District Councilor and incoming secretary to the mayor Bernie Ang  said that Manila Mayor-elect Isko Moreno is very glad and thankful that some barangays have already started to clear their areas of vendors and trash on the streets even before the new city administration takes office on July 1.

Ang said Moreno has expressed gratitude to barangay chairmen who take it upon themselves to put orderliness in their areas in line with the new mayor’s plans to clean up the city as his priority.

“Apparently, they have been inspired by the pronouncements of our new mayor, Isko Moreno, that he would embark on a massive cleanup of the city and such voluntary efforts on the part of our barangay chairmen is highly appreciated by him,” Ang said in a statement.

Ang said they learned through social media that the street of Blumentritt was cleared of vendors by the barangay chairman. A cleanup operation followed to clean the road and adjacent streets of all trash caused by sidewalk vendors.

Moreno expressed hope that other barangays in the city will emulate what was done in Blumentritt.

Moreno is also planning to organize all sidewalk and street vendors so that pedestrians and motorists could use the streets.
