FOR fear of the deadline given by President Rodrigo Duterte, a former inmate who is not even a beneficiary of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law but merely escaped from the Apopong Municipal Jail in General Santos City decided to surrender the other day at the Manila Police District (MPD) headquarters in Manila.
Ontaner Dimacuta Macarampat, 36, told MPD District Director PBGen Vicente Danao, Jr. that he did not want to die.
Macarampat said he was convicted on drug charges and escaped from prison in March 2016, after he got stabbed while serving time and was hospitalized for it. He then went back to his family and went to Manila to work.
At the MPD, he approached Police Patrolman Louie Rens Crisostomo and sought help so he could surrender.
It was learned that Macarampat left his family in Marawi City and before his surrender, had been staying in a relative’s home in Pasay City for the past three years while working as an E-Trike driver.
