Northern Police District cop, cohort held for mauling

A member of the Northern Police District (NPD) and his male cohort were arrested by the police for allegedly mauling two persons who allegedly hurled invectives at them.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director, Police Brigadier General Joselito T Esquivel Jr identified the cop as Police Corporal Omar Lopez, 31, assigned at Northern Police District (NPD) together with his cohort Ajan Tigas, 19, both from Bgy. Bagbag, Novaliches.

Report showed that about 3 a.m. Monday, at Seminary Road corner Ero St., Bgy. Bagbag, Novaliches, the victims identified as Marlon Dela Cruz and Aljon Aromin on board a motorcycle passed by at the suspects’ place and allegedly uttered unsavory words prompting the suspects to chase the victims which resulted in a heated confrontation and mauling.

The victims reported the incident to the Police Community Precinct 3 of Novaliches Police Station who immediately responded resulting in the arrest of the suspects and confiscation of Lopez’ service firearm, a 9mm Glock 17 pistol with serial number PNP10586 loaded with ammunition.

A case of physical injury was filed against the suspects at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

PBGen Esquivel Jr. said “maging aral nawa ito sa mga kapulisan na pairalin ang maximum tolerance at ‘wag magpadala sa emosyon upang hindi mapahamak. Haharapin din nila ang kasong isasampa laban sa kanila”.
