SIX operating units of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Friday received nearly P8.7 million reward for their role in major anti-narcotics operations since 2018 which resulted in the confiscation of over P2.5 billion worth of shabu and marijuana crops and the arrest of major drug personalities in the country, PDEA chair, Director General Aaron N. Aquino announced yesterday.
The granting of a total of P8,669,933.75 to the PDEA men is based on the PDEA Operation: Lawmen pursuant to Section 22 of Republic Act 9165 which was institutionalized through Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation Number 1, Series of 2016 on September 3, 2016.
Aquino said the recipients of the cash reward were the PDEA Intelligence and Investigation Service, National Capital Region Office and Regional Offices 3,4-A, 6 and 12.
The official said the PDEA-IIS got the biggest reward amounting to P2,506,266.71 after its men dismantled two clandestine shabu laboratories in Metro Manila last year.
The first was the secret drug facility in Tila, Malabon City on April 16 last year where 9.8 liters of liquid shabu and chemicals and various laboratory apparatus and equipment were recovered followed by another operation in Pasay City on September 25 of the same year which led in the confiscation of 91.7 kilograms of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ worth P623 million and various laboratory apparatus and equipment and the arrest of four Chinese nationals who are now facing non-bailable charges for violation of RA 9165.
The PDEA Region 4-A got a P2 million reward in connection with a buy-bust operation in Tanza, Cavite which resulted in the seizure of 273.37 kilos of shabu worth P1.86 billion.
On the other hand, the PDEA-NCR received P1,881,667.68 in cash reward in the aftermath of a buy-bust operation in Quezon City last February 20 which led in the recovery of 6,020 grams of shabu worth P9.63 million and arrest of a Nigerian national; and another sting in Alabang, Muntinlupa City last March 19 which resulted in the arrest of the big-time Chinese drug dealers and the confiscation of nearly 30 kilograms of shabu valued at P197 million.
The PDEA Region 3 got a total cash reward of P1,762,039.36 after leading two airport interdiction operations in Clark, Pampanga on January 26, 2018 which led in the recovery of 19.71 kilos of shabu worth P134.02 million and another sting in the same area on June 6, 2018 which resulted in the seizure of P27.13 million worth of shabu and another buy-bust operation in Subic, Zambales last January 11 which led in the confiscation of marijuana ‘kush’ worth P13.69 million from two drug traffickers.
The PDEA Region 12 received P267,960.00 for the conduct of a marijuana eradication operation in Malungon, Sarangani on October 23, 2018 which led in the uprooting and destruction of nearly P2.25 million worth of fully-grown cannabis plants and seedlings.
The PDEA Region 11 got P252,000 for a similar marijuana eradication operation in Tarragona, Davao Oriental last March 16 which resulted in the destruction of some P2.1 million worth of marijuana crops.
Aquino said the PDEA Operation: Lawmen is the reward or award program for law enforcers or members of the anti-illegal drug units/teams or task forces, including the support unit/s of the country’s lead drug enforcement agency.
“This reward scheme is helping boost the morale of different law enforcement operating teams involved in the country’s war on drugs,” the official said.
