Peña keeps stronghold in Makati, sees easy win vs rival

January 26, 2019

FORMER Acting Makati Mayor Kid Peña has already kept a stronghold of the city’s first district, amid rumors that few of his coordinators have jumped to the opposite side.

Tropang Kid Chairman Reynaldo Martinez said the core group of Peña will not be rocked by cheap talk and rumor-mongering as he boasted of its solid foundation dating back in 2010 when he (Peña) lorded over a more popular opponent.

Martinez said the ex-acting mayor  already molded himself as one of the best local leaders in Makati, starting from scratch and rising to what he is today.

From a humble barangay councilor, Peña climbed to the pinnacle of his political career which gave him a chance to serve the highest post in the city hall. His short-lived tenure is considered by many as the best in the new era of public service.

Senior citizens felt the optimum care after receiving the best branded cakes in the market during their birthdays and anniversaries.  Medicines and vitamins were delivered to their doorsteps by Kid Peña riders and accompanied by health workers to monitor their health condition.

PWDs were also given jobs to accommodate concerns among their sector. Streetsweepers and traffic enforcers were finally given regular plantilla positions after 30 years of government service. All employees got an additional one month salary fringe bonus, while teachers got their overdue windfall benefits, as Peña managed to keep Makati’s robust economy.

Martinez believes the dwindling popularity of Peña’s rival can’t be saved by desperate movements as they already face imminent defeat.

“Peña’s immense popularity will definitely make him retire in convincing manner, more regreting than what he suffered in 2016 presidential elections. Since he started his career in Makati, the marvelous Peña will also end his reign via major blow in the city’s first district,” Martinez said.

The departure of three barangay coordinators have no effect on Peña’s chance. In fact, they were replaced by better leaders who incidentally came from the opposing camp. Meanwhile, majority of businessmen are in a tug-of-war to become Peña’s exclusive sponsor joining church leaders, NGO’s, village chiefs and large number of residents who have already thrown their support to Peña.
