Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation bus kills Manila City Hall employee

A male employee of the Manila City Hall got killed after being run over by a bus while crossing the street at the corner of United Nations Avenue and San Marcelino Street in Ermita, Manila.

The Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU) identified the victim as Jonnifer Basabe, 48, assigned at the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and residing at Phase 2, Lot 33, Block 37, Panatag Road, Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide have been filed against suspect Rico Balugo, 40, driver of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) bus and residing at 25 Centraza Village, Las Piñas City.  He is now in the custody of the MDTEU.

Investigation by the Vehicle Traffic Investigation Section (VTIS) of the MPD said the accident took place at 6:30 a.m. near San Marcelino Street.                

Witness Richard Torres told probers that he was with the victim cleaning the street when the latter decided to cross United Nations Avenue while pushing their cart that carried trash. Moments later, the victim was hit and run over by a Hino Bus (SAA-6422) being driven by the suspect.

It was learned that on impact, the victim landed underneath the rear tires and was killed on the spot. The driver surrendered to the police.

Meanwhile, the management of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) expresses its deepest condolences and prayers to the family of the Manila City Hall employee who was caught in an unfortunate road accident this morning which involved the agency’s service vehicle.

The PAGCOR bus was on the way to the corporation’s gift-giving event for the constituents of  Mandaluyong City Federation of Senior Citizens Association, Inc. and Solo Parent Federation of Mandaluyong City when the accident occurred. The management immediately reached out to the family of the male victim who was sadly killed in the unfortunate incident.

The management assures the kin of the victim, survived by his wife and two children, that necessary assistance including financial aid will be immediately extended.
