Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency declares 20 jails drug-free

A TOTAL of 20 Metro Manila jails of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) have been declared by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)  drug-free.

In a resolution, PDEA Regional Director Joel Plaza said that all 20 facilities were able to meet and achieve all the parameters set by the regional oversight committee tasked to check and declare drug-cleared and drug-free facilities.

Aside from PDEA, the oversight committee includes the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Health (DoH) and the BJMP.  

BJMP-NCR director Chief Supt. Ignacio Panti identified these jails as the Malabon City Jail (both male and female dormitory); Manila City Jail (male and female dormitory); Manila City Jail Annex in Taguig; Manila District Jail Annex 1; Manila District Jail Annex 3; Metro Manila District Jail Annex 5; Metro Manila District Jail Main.

Other drug-free facilities are the Marikina City Jail female dormitory; Muntinlupa City Jail (male and female dormitory); Pasig City Jail (male and female dormitory); Quezon City Jail (male and female dormitory); Taguig City Jail (male and female dormitory) and the Valenzuela City Jail (male and female dormitory).
