Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency seizes P1B worth of shabu in Malabon operation

AN anti-narcotics operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency led to the seizure of 146 kilograms of shabu worth nearly P1 billion on Wednesday at a warehouse in Malabon.

In a late afternoon press conference, PDEA chair Director General Aaron N. Aquino said they were joined by officers from the Bureau of Customs, Philippine National Police and the Philippine Coast Guard in following  the trail of the syndicate which led them to the Goldwin Commercial Warehouse in Malabon.

Aquino said a total of 146 kilos of shabu worth more or less P1 billion  concealed in 114 bags were found inside the aluminum pallets.

“This shipment of illegal drugs is from Cambodia and is part of the Goldwin Triangle syndicate,” said Aquino who added that they are still conducting follow-up investigations to identify, charge and arrest the suspects behind the large-scale importation of drugs.

He said the recovered drugs were connected to the PDEA operation in Dasmarinas, City, Cavite, last February 13 where 36 kilos of shabu worth P244 million and the Tanza, Cavite operation last February 3 which led to the recovery of 274 kilograms of shabu worth P1.9 billion.

Suspects Alexander Jun Wah Ting Lee and Patrick John Gankee were arrested in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Tondo village chief son nabbed in anti-drug raid

Benedict Cortez alias ‘Jon-Jon’, a son of a barangay chairman, of No. 2223-D Molave Street, in Tondo, and tagged as a “high-value” drug target in Metro Manila was arrested by agents of the National Capital Region Police Office-Regional Drug Enforcement Unit during a raid early yesterday morning.

NCRPO director Major General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said some P340,000 worth of shabu and an unlicensed 12-gauge shotgun and 48 bullets of caliber .40 were seized from the suspect.

Eleazar said the suspect is the son of incumbent Bgy. 228 chairman Ricardo Cortez who will also be questioned regarding his failure to stop the reported illicit drug activities of his son.

The suspect will be facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of dangerous drugs under RA 9165 and violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.

Meanwhile, Quezon City Police District Director Police Brigadier General Joselito T. Esquivel Jr. said operatives of Batasan Police Station (PS 6) arrested Johairah Wali, alias Ofelia, 33, of No. 11 Ilang-Ilang St., Mary Homes Subdivision, Novaliches;  Edgar de Asis, Jr., 30, of Bgy. Pinyahan, and Ernilito Reyes, 46, of Bgy. Pasong Tamo, were arrested and seized from them about P820,000 worth of shabu in an anti-illegal drug operations Wednesday in Quezon City.

Police said a police poseur buyer was able to buy Php10, 000 worth of shabu from Wali, a salon owner, during a buy-bust.
