OFFICERS of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group will help the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board enforce quarantine rules on social distancing on UV Express units now that they’re back on the road.
PNP chief General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa yesterday said members of the PNP-HPG headed by Brigadier Gen. Eliseo DC Cruz already have their respective checkpoints in Metro Manila and would only need to be re-oriented on what to do when they spot possible quarantine violations of UV Express drivers.
“Over the weekend we had to rush our own preparations and adjustments ahead of the new IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) guidelines affecting the transport sector which the LTFRB is set to implement effective today, specifically the terminal-to-terminal operation of 980 UV Express in 47 routes coming in and going out of Metro Manila subject to certain conditions and compliant with IATF guidelines on observance of minimum health standards,” he said.
“As the law enforcement arm of IATF, the PNP will strictly enforce guidelines on physical distancing and personal protection, and prohibitions to acts that endanger public health.
Except for units and personnel officially deputized to enforce LTO, LTFRB and MMDA rules and regulations, as a general rule, the PNP shall not interfere with these modes of public transport operation unless there is flagrant violation of law that require police intervention,” Gen. Gamboa stressed.
