PNP intelligence agent gunned down

A MEMBER of the Philippine National Police Intelligence Group was killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen early yesterday morning near Camp Crame in Quezon City.

Staff Sergeant Fernando Diamzon, 49, a member of the National Capital Regional Intelligence Unit of the PNP-IG, was driving his motorcycle when the suspects, who were tailing him, attacked him upon reaching Bonny Serrano Avenue in Barangay Bagong Lipunan at around 8:40 a.m. The victim died on the spot from several gunshot wounds.

The victim’s buddy Police Senior Master Sargeant Ernesto Buenviaje, 46, also assigned at PNP-IG, witnessed the incident. He said the gunmen, who were wearing black helmets and armed with semi-automatic pistols, are still being hunted as of press time.

The PNP-IG headed by Brigadier General Edgar S. Monsalve has joined the Q.C. Police District headed by Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr. in investigating the incident and tracking down the killers.

Police are still looking into the possibility that the killing of Diamzon could be work-related.

The Journal Group learned that Diamzon had just finished his duty in Camp Crame when the incident happened.
