A police intelligence officer was gunned down by two unidentified suspects while conducting legitimate police operation before dawn Thursday in Taguig City.
PO1 Rodeo Taccaban, presently assigned at the Intelligence Section of Taguig Police Station, and residing in Villa Crisanto, Purok 2, Bgy. Taguig, sustained a gunshot wound in the left shoulder and died while undergoing surgery at the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital.
A report received yesterday by Southern Police District (SPD) director Chief Supt. Eliseo Cruz said PO1 Taccaban and other intelligence police officers were conducting a follow-up operation on the series of robbery-holdup in front of Gawad Kalinga, Phase I at around 2:10 a.m. when the victim chanced upon two men, suspected of being involved in criminal activities in the area.
However, when the suspects sensed the presence of lawmen, one of them pulled out an unknown caliber of firearm and shot the rookie cop, hitting him in the right shoulder. After the incident, the suspects escaped.
Taguig police chief Senior Supt. Alexander Santos immediately ordered the conduct of massive manhunt operation against the suspects but failed to identify and arrest them.
Chief Supt. Cruz said they are saddened with the death of PO1 Taccaban but he could be remembered for his dedication to duty, conducted operations that led to the apprehension of many suspects.
