Pusher killed in scuffle for gun

A SUSPECTED drug pusher was shot and killed after he allegedly grabbed the gun of a policeman while transferring his handcuff inside the Marikina Police Station yesterday morning.

Eastern Police District (EPD) director PBrig.General Christopher Tambungan identified the drug suspect as Arnold Lajom, 38, driver and resident of Marikina City.

Lajom died on the spot due to a gunshot wound in the head.

The cop who shot and killed Lajom -- PSMsgt. Dionese Salcedo, assigned at the Marikina Police SDEU -- voluntarily surrendered to Station Drug Enforcement Unit chief, PLt. Elmer Rigonan.

Tambungan said prior to the incident SDEU teams collared Lajom along with seven other suspects in a buy-bust operation on the information that they were involved in drug-peddling activities early morning yesterday.

Policemen were able to buy drugs from the suspects which resulted to their arrest.

The suspects including Lajom were brought to the SDEU office at the Marikina Police Station in Bgy.Sta Elena at around 6:10 a.m. for documentation and filing of charges.

While Salcedo was transferring the handcuff of Lajom from front to back, the suspect allegedly resisted and grabbed  his service firearm. The two scuffled for the gun.

Tambungan said the gun “accidentally went off” and hit Lajom in the head.

“Nag-agawan na sila ng baril tapos accidentally  pumutok at tinamaan ang suspect,” Tambungan said.

Salcedo gave himself up to his superior including his service firearm a Glock 17 Gen 4 model Cal 9 pistol loaded with  16 ammunition.

Tambungan ordered a deeper investigation on the incident.

The cop underwent a paraffin examination while his firearm was submitted for ballistic examination.

The EPD chief said, Salcedo is under restrictive custody at the Marikina Police and will be facing homicide charges.
