QCPD to file raps vs grouo for mauling, robbing cop

QUEZON City Police District (QCPD) Director PBGen Ronnie S Montejo said they will file charges against leaders and members of different cause-oriented groups who mauled and robbed a policeman supposed to maintain peace and order in the illegal demonstration at the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Compound, Bgy UP Campus, QC.

PBGen Montejo said the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) will file charges against the suspects identified as Bryan Gonzales, of legal age, leader of KARAPATAN and residing at Maaralin St, UP Diliman, Quezon City, Kara Levina Taggaoa, legal age, leader of LFS and residing at UP Diliman, Quezon City, Larry Balbuena, of legal age, President of PASADA PISTON and residing at No.63 Narra St, Bgy. Clark, Project.3, Quezon City , and other leaders from BAYAN MUNA, ANAK PAWIS, SANKA, LUMAD, SAVE OUR SCHOOL NETWORK and KABATAAN PARTYLIST.

They were responsible in robbing and mauling Police Chief Master Sargeant (PCMS) Feliciano Evangelio, 46 years old, assigned at the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) in Camp Karingal..

The report showed that about at 10:30 a.m July 11, 2020, more or less 150 protesters from different cause-oriented groups staged a protest rally at the CHR Compound.

However, five personnel from the DSOU including PCMS Evangelio who were in the area for peacekeeping and monitoring were approached by several unidentified demonstrators.

With intent to inflict harm and apparently upon the orders of their leaders, the demonstrators grabbed and dragged PCMS Evangelio and mauled him. They also took away his belongings which include a black belt bag containing one cal 9MM, Glock Gen17 with SN: PNP 09996 with two magazine loaded with 30 live ammunitions, brown wallet containing assorted ID's and cash money amounting to P5,000.00, G Shock wrist watch and an IPhone 6.

Responding personnel from the UP police pacified the group and brought the policeman to their office for initial investigation. He was later turned over to the CIDU.

Cases of Robbery, Physical Injury, Direct Assault, Grave Coersion, Violation of RA11332 and Violation of RA 146 and BP 880 (Illegal Assembly) will be filed against the suspects.

PBGen Montejo condemned the acts shown by the leaders and members of the militant groups. Their actions were certainly uncalled for especially that our policemen are there to maintain peace and order considering that their assembly is illegal. 

“Sasampahan natin ng mga kaukulang kaso ang mga lider at miyembro na nanakit at nagnakaw ng gamit ng ating pulis,” he added.
