QCPD, PNP-IG agents nab wanted ASG bandit

A MOST wanted Abu Sayyaf Group bandit who was involved in the kidnapping of 15 workers in Basilan which, masterminded by the late ASG leader Isnilon Hapilon in 2001, was arrested in his hiding place Friday in Quezon City.

Quezon City Police District director Brigadier General Joselito T. Esquivel identified the suspect as Abuhair Kullim Indal, 32, alias ‘Annual Dasil and ‘Abu Khair’, a member of Abu Sayyaf wanted for kidnapping and serious illegal detention, was arrested in his residence at No. 104 Cotabato Street in Salaam Compound in Barangay Culiat, Q.C. at around 4:25 p.m. by joint operatives of the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit headed by Major Elmer Monsalve, PNP-IG team led by Captain Loveno Galarosa, the QCPD Station 3 under Lieutenant Colonel Alex Alberto and a QCPD SWAT team led by Captain Jacinto Pascual.

Police records showed that Indal was one of the trusted men of ASG Commander Furuji Indama who also previously worked with ASG sub-leader Hassan Jamiri who surrendered to government authorities on March 28, 2018.

The suspect was identified as among the armed ASG extremists who were involved in the kidnapping of 15 workers at the Golden Harvest Plantation in Barangay Tairan Lantawan, Basilan on June 11, 2001. The infamous kidnapping case was masterminded by the late ASG leader Isnilon Hapilon.

Esquivel said records likewise showed that Indal also fiercely engaged soldiers in a gunbattle in August 2001 at the vicinity of Kumalarang, Basilan where he was wounded in the right arm.

Esquivel said that during the service of the warrant of arrest, officers spotted the suspect trying to flee as the suspect was about to take a hand grenade. He was immediately subdued while the grenade was seized and rendered safe.

The suspect is now facing additional criminal charges for illegal possession of explosives under Republic Act 9516 in relation to the Omnibus Election Code and resistance and disobedience to an agent of a person in authority.
