THE Manila Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MPDTEU) yesterday said that some roads will be closed starting today up to Good Friday on April 19 to give way to several religious activities related to the nationwide observance of Holy Week.
The MPD said the Gen. Luna Street from Sto. Tomas Street to Muralla Street will be closed on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday though there would be a traffic rerouting scheme to avoid traffic congestion.
A traffic rerouting will also be implemented today to give way to processions for “Semana Santa 2019 which will be held up to Easter Sunday. These are the “Prusisyon ng Pagpapakasakit ng Panginoong Hesukristo”; Good Friday Procession at 5 p.m. and the Easter Sunday for the (Risen Christ and “Salubong” procession).
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the Tripa De Gallina Bridge also known as Buendia Bridge in Pasay City will be closed beginning on Maundy Thursday, to pave the way for its continuing rehabilitation.
Jojo Garcia, MMDA General Manager, said the bridge closure took effect at 12 midnight today and will last until 12 noon of Easter Sunday.
Affected motorists from Buendia Avenue going to Taft Avenue are advised to take Emilia Street. A counter flow lane will be opened on a portion of Buendia Avenue to accommodate public utility buses and cargo trucks along the major thoroughfare.
