A notorious hired gun and leader of a robbery-holdup and drug syndicate “Ka Reggie Group” involved in selling shabu and unlicensed guns and his cohort were killed in an encounter with authorities in a buy-bust operation yesterday morning in Caloocan City.
Northern Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) head Supt Charlie Cabradilla identified the slain suspects as Reggie de Guzman, of Lot 15, Blk. 38, Sabalo St., Bgy. 12, and his cohort identified only as certain Jason Paguia.
CIDG desk officer SPO4 Wyrlo Gatok said elements of CIDG Northern District Field Unit (NDFU), in coordination with Northern Police District (NPD), conducted a buy-bust operation against De Guzman for unlicensed firearms at around 10 a.m. in front of his house.
However, when De Guzman and Paguia sensed that they were dealing with police decoy, they pulled out their respective firearms and engaged lawmen in a shootout.
After a brief exchange of gunfire, the suspects were hit in their bodies and died instantly.
SPO4 Gatok said elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered from the slain suspects a cal. .45 pistol with magazine loaded with ammunition, a cal. .38 revolver and several plastic sachets containing an undetermined quantity of shabu and 15 pieces of P1,000 bills in buy-bust money.
Based on police record, De Guzman and Paguia were included on the police and barangay drug watchlists and both were in the target list of Bgy. 12 for their involvement in drug and unlicensed gun selling.
De Guzman was also involved in several robbery-holdup cases and was facing several charges for robbery, illegal possession of firearms, frustrated homicide, slight physical injury in relation to child abuse and other criminal cases which are pending in different courts in Caloocan and Malabon cities.
