POLICE arrested several men caught in the act of engaging in illegal cockfighting known as “tupada” at the height of Typhoon “Rolly” Sunday afternoon in Valenzuela City.
Valenzuela police chief P/Col. Fernando Ortega said operatives of the Station Intelligence Branch (SIB) received a text message from National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) tactical operation command about the ongoing tupada at Tercias Compound in Bgy. Karuhatan while they were preparing for the typhoon’s onslaught.
At around 3:20 p.m. operatives of SIB led by P/Capt. Marissa Arellano raided the compound and arrested Alejandro Dela Cruz, 63, Jeffrey Solambao, 39, Jhun Bugarin, 45, Robertson Mallare, 26 and Joseph Sabaniano, 36, while others were able to escape when police swooped down the area.
The raiding team recovered two fighting cocks with gaff or “tari” still attached to their feet and bet money amounting to P3,300.
Ortega said the arrested suspects were presented to Valenzuela City Prosecutor’s Office thru electronic inquest proceedings on charges for violation of PD 1602 or illegal gambling while an Ordinance Violation Receipt (OVR) was issued to them for violating the regulation on social distancing.
