Central Luzon has a new Regional Police Director in the person of Police Brigadier General Rhodel O. Sermonia, the Journal Group learned yesterday.
A member of Philippine Military Academy ‘Makatao” Class of 1989, Sermonia is a bemedalled police official who authored several impact programs that have become his legacy in peace and order and community development in the country.
A former Police-Community Relations Group director until he was designated two weeks ago as Deputy Director of the PNP Directorate for Police-Community Relations, Sermonia is the 2nd member of PMS Class 1989 to become a police regional director this year, the first being Brig. Gen. Valeriano T. de Leon of Police Regional Office 7 in Central Visayas region.
Sermonia will be replaced as DPCR Deputy Director by Brig. Gen. Bartolome Bustamante. Official orders for his designation was issued late afternoon yesterday.
Sermonia is not new to the peace and order climate of Central Luzon. As a young officer of CIDG in 90’s, he served as provincial officer of Bulacan and Pampanga where he made headlines in the neutralizations of high profile crime groups.
Sermonia’s extensive experience as operations and intelligence officer during his junior officer days have earned him prestigious awards, including PNP Best Junior Officer of the Year Awards nationwide, three times from 1996 to 2002. Another prestigious award was the Metrobank Foundation’s COPS or Country’s Outstanding Policemen in the Service Award; and the most coveted award for PMA graduates, the 2004 PMA Cavalier Award.
Sermonia made a come-back in Central Luzon in 2014 as provincial director of Bataan where he is acknowledged for his game-changer achievements in the government’s fight against illegal drugs and insurgency.
