A SUSPECTED snatcher was killed after he tried to grab the service firearm of responding police officer Thursday evening in Malabon City.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Jessie Tamayao said John Paul Sanchez, 20, jobless and resident of 175 Kaingin St. M.H. Del Pilar, Bgy. Tinajeros succumbed to bullet wound in the body while being rushed to Ospital ng Malabon.

Homicide investigator P/SSgt. Jose Romeo Germinal II said P/SSgt. Leo Lubiano, 41, assigned at the Malabon Police Sub-Station 2 was driving his motorcycle when Rossana Santos, 37, bonds woman and resident of 6 Katarungan St. Brgy. Muzon flagged him down at around 10:25 p.m.along M.H. Del Pilar St. Brgy. Tinajeros to seek assistance after the suspect snatched her handbag.

Lubiano immediately alighted from his motorcycle and chased the suspect who was about to board his get-away motorcycle and was able to accost him after introducing himself as a police officer.

When the cop seized the stolen item from the suspect, the latter allegedly got a chance to grab the service firearm of the police officer that resulted in their scuffle for possession of the gun.

During the scuffle, the gun accidentally went off and hit the suspect in the body which prompted the policeman to rush him to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead-on-arrival.

When elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) led by P/Capt. Sonny Boy Tepace responded to the crime scene, they recovered a black coin purse from the suspect’s get-away motorcycle, containing three pieces of plastic sachets containing undetermined quantity of suspected shabu.
