Retired police chief superintendent ambushed near Mall of Asia.
A RETIRED police Chief Inspector and owner of a security agency for Solaire Hotel and Casino was killed in a daylight ambush yesterday afternoon in Pasay City.
Former Chief Insp. Roberto Razon, 52, of Metro Real, Montalban, Rizal, succumbed to bullet wounds in the body while being rushed to San Juan De Dios Hospital while two of his passengers identified as Menchie Ramos and Florabelle Legazpi were unhurt.
Southern Police District Acting Director Senior Supt. Eliseo Cruz said the victim was driving a black Toyota Vios when he stopped at a red light at the corner of Diokno Boulevard and Coral Way in MOA Complex, at around 12:09 p.m.
The armed suspects on a single motorcycle stopped near the driver’s side of the vehicle. The back rider immediately drew a handgun and shot the victim repeatedly. The suspects fled immediately after the shooting.
Pasay police chief Senior Supt. Noel Flores said that prior to the incident, the victim conducted an inspection of his security personnel at the Solaire Hotel and Casino.
Homicide investigators believed the suspects tailed the victim when he left the casino hotel.
Police are yet to establish the motive behind the killing while a follow-up operation is still ongoing for possible identification and arrest of the suspects.
PNP mourns death of Pasay intel chief.
THE Philippine National Police headed by Director General Oscar D. Albayalde yesterday mourned the death of Pasay City police intelligence chief Senior Inspector Manuel Junior Taytayon at the hands of a fugitive murder suspect.
“We mourn the loss of another police officer who exhibited larger than life human qualities when he offered the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty Sunday afternoon in Pasay City,” said the PNP chief in a statement.
Taytayon, a member of the PNP Academy Class 2012 succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds when he traded shots with fugitive Marc ‘Nico’ Delemios, the confessed killer of Grab driver Gerardo Maquidato Jr. in October 2017.
According to Southern Police District director Senior Superintendent Eliseo DC Cruz, the Pasay City police captain died while trading shots with fugitive Delemios at the 4th floor of Block 23, Lot 1, on Don Carlos Revilla Village, in Barangay 148, Zone 4, Pasay City, at around 2:20 p.m. Sunday.
“The PNP assures the family of Police Senior Inspector Taytayon of assistance within our means if only to alleviate their suffering. The PNP will never run out of heroes because many more good men in the police service will not hesitate to go the way of PSI Manuel Taytayon. The officer corps and rank-and-file join me in prayer for the eternal repose of his soul. May he rest in peace,” Gen. Albayalde said.
Cruz said Delemios was previously arrested for killing Grab driver Maquidato but managed to escape while under the custody of the BJMP-run Pasay City Jail last August.
Eleazar said they will be giving a hero’s burial to the slain officer, the latest policeman to be killed in the line of duty.
Cruz said Taytayon has proven that there are many members of the police force who are always ready to sacrifice their lives in the performance of duty. “We have lost a brave policeman who did not mind the danger he would be facing just to capture a fugitive from law,” Cruz told the Journal Group.
