Soldier killed, 2 cops hurt in Marikina clash

A soldier was killed while two members assigned at the  National Capital Regional Police Office were wounded during a shooting incident in Marikina City yesterday.

Eastern Police District (EPD) director Brig  Gen Johnson Almazan said the fatality identified as Staff Sgt. Marvin Balucas of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) while the two police were named as Executive Master Sgt. Demetrio Sarita Magpali, Jr. and MSgt. Edward Yap, both members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), who sustained gunshot wounds.

Based on the initial police report, the unnamed suspect fired at the two policemen while riding a motorcycle along A Bonifacio Avenue in Barangay Barangka at around 11:30 a.m.

Magpali was shot in the head and body while Yap obtained a gunshot wound in the left leg.

While the two unidentified motorbike riders were traversing along Bonifacio Avenue near a mall, the soldier blocked their path and fired.

However, the two bike riders retaliated, leading to the instantaneous death of Balucas.

The three were brought to Amang Rodriguez Hospital in Marikina City.

The two CIDG personnel were later transferred to Chinese Medical Center in Manila.
