Store owner almost killed in ‘Akyat-Bahay’ robbery

A 41-year-old businesswoman was critically wounded when she was stabbed by a suspected member of “Akyat-Bahay” gang who entered her house yesterday before dawn in Malabon City.

Marie Cel Lao, a sari-sari store owner of No. 54 Gil Pascual St., Bgy. Hulong Duhat, was rushed to Tondo Medical Center for treatment of stab wounds in the body.

The suspect identified as Joseph Magante, 21 of H. Vicencio Street, was arrested by police in a follow-up operation.

Investigation conducted by Police Staff Sgt. Richard Andrew Calaycay and SSgt. Philip Cesar Apostol showed the victim was sleeping when around 3 a.m.  she was awakened by a noise at the second floor of her house. Upon checking, she was surprised to see the suspect already holding her wallet containing undetermined amount of cash. The suspect drew a bladed weapon and stabbed her.

The suspect immediately escaped by jumping from the second floor of the house.

Witness Jufirst Soquilon, 24, immediately sought the assistance of Malabon Police Community Precinct (PCP) 5 that resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
