AN 18-year-old female student was reportedly caught on closed circuit television (CCTV) throwing away a dead newborn baby in a garbage bin in Sampaloc, Manila, yesterday morning.

Owing to this, the Manila Police District said the lady  had been arrested. Her name and the baby’s gender are being withheld pending an investigation and following her arrest on M.F. Jhocson Street in Sampaloc.

Prober Det. Bernardo Cayabyab of the MPD-Homicide Section said the baby was found dead at 9:10 a.m. inside a blue plastic bag which was dumped into the garbage.

Concerned citizens who discovered the bag reported the matter to the police, who reviewed the CCTV in the said area and saw the said woman living in a nearby boarding house throwing the plastic.

Det. Cayabyab said initial investigation showed that the woman was all alone in the boarding house when she delivered the baby at around 3 a.m.

Police said the baby came out alive and died later on, sending the mother in panic that she just decided to throw the baby away.
