A taxi driver was shot dead by riding-in-tandem suspects with whom he reportedly had a feud over so-called ‘dagger looks’ in San Andres Bukid, Manila early yesterday morning.
Dead on the spot due to three gunshot wounds in the body was Juanchito Flores, 45, of 193 R. Ramos Street, Barangay Tambobong, Bocaue, Bulacan.
The suspects who escaped were described as between 40 and 45 years old and were reportedly seen by some witnesses.
A report from the office of Manila Police District (MPD) chief Senior Supt. Vicente Danao said the incident took place at the corner of P. Ocampo and Perlita Streets in San Andres Bukid.
A witness told probers that she and her friend had just come from a party in Makati City when they rode a white Gelsie taxi (ACC-850) being driven by the victim. From P. Ocampo Street going to La Salle Taft, the cab stopped at a red light. Moments later, the suspects arrived aboard a lone motorcycle, knocked at the driver’s window and told the latter that they did not like the way he looked at them.
An argument ensued and the witness advised the victim to ignore them since they appeared drunk.
When the light turned green, the victim stepped on the gas but the suspects pursued him and overtook his cab, leaving the victim with no choice but to stop.
The backrider then got off the motorcycle and told the victim to get out. The driver refused and instead tried to get out of the area but the suspect drew a gun and fired at the victim thrice, after which he rode back on their motorcycle and sped away toward an unknown direction.
Patrolling policemen from the Dagonoy Police Community Precinct (PCP) -- PO1s Adonis Camacho and Elseo Lipay, Jr. -- were then in area conducting patrol when they heard the shots and responded to the scene. However, the suspects were already gone when they arrived.
Concerned citizens rushed the victim to the nearest hospital. An investigation is underway.
