A duty traffic enforcer of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was stabbed and wounded after he tried to arrest a fleeing thief who stole from an almost blind vendor’s money shortly before noon yesterday in Pasay City

Randy Domong, 48, was rushed to San Juan De Dios Hospital for treatment of a stab wound on the side of his body while the suspect, identified as Rolando Reano, 41, of 2489 P. Villanueva St. Bgy. 88 was arrested when a group of bystanders who witnessed the incident chased him until he was cornered along Macapagal Avenue.

Pasay City police chief P/Col. Bernard Yang said the incident happened at around 11:55 p.m. while Renato Alsona, 42, of 771 F. Cruz St. Malibay, whose left eye was totally blind while the other was almost blind, was tending his store at the Hobbies of Asia along Macapagal Avenue.

The suspect surreptitiously stole the money amounting to P6,000 from a total of P11,000 placed inside the bag of Alsona then fled but the latter noticed him and sought the help of bystanders.

Domong who was manning the traffic in the area noticed the commotion and tried to arrest Reano but the latter pulled out a bladed weapon and stabbed him once in the body.
