A 23-YEAR-OLD tricycle driver was wounded by a passerby who shot him and whose group thought the victim and his friends were laughing at them as they were walking in Tondo, Manila the other day.
Victim Herminio Diverson, of 1663 Int. 19, F. Varona St., Brgy. 79, Tondo, Manila, sustained a lone gunshot wound in the body.
A report from the Manila Police District-Station 1 said the incident took place at 4:45 a.m. at the corner of Panday Pira and Varona Streets in Tondo.
Witness Maricris Diverson, 27, a relative of the victim, told the police that they were having a drinking session and laughing when the suspect, Roberto Puerte, 27, also a tricycle driver, then accompanied by a certain ‘Pipoy,’ passed by.
Police said the suspect thought the victim’s group was laughing at them and confronted the victim and his friends.
Diverson was said to have explained to Puerte that the accusation was not true, but ‘Pipoy’ suddenly punched the victim in the face.
Puerte then drew a gun and with it shot the victim once. He and Pipoy then fled on foot toward an unknown direction while the victim was rushed by his companions to the hospital.
