A 27-year-old man of Chinese descent was arrested after paying a fraudulent check amounting to P1.2 million to an online seller in exchange for a “Audemars Piquet” wrist watch the victim was selling Tuesday afternoon in Makati City.

Baldwin Co, also known as Baldwin Brent Co and Jaime Joseph Ledesma, 27, with several given address in the cities of Manila, Muntinlupa and Paranaque was arrested by elements of Makati city police in an entrapment operation, along with one Geraldben Mirabueno, 47, security guard detailed at Elizabeth’s Place Condominium who he tried to intervene in a police operation.

Makati Police Station Investigation and Detective Management Branch (SIDMB) head Maj. Gideon Ines, Jr. said that earlier on March 4, Co and businessman Jhay Shanker Khemani, 31, of No. 4 San Geronimo St., Magallanes Village met in front of Two Salcedo after the suspect agreed to buy the wrist watch posted on a “Carousel app” by the victim in the amount of P1.2 million.

The suspect paid the amount using his China bank personal check but when Khemeni went to the bank to encash it, the teller told him that the check was fake.

After several days, the victim received information from his friend that his expensive wrist watch was posted for sale thru on-line prompting him to seek police assistance.

Maj. Ines and his men immediately conducted an entrapment operation against Co at around 5:30 p.m. in front of Elizabeth’s Place Condominium located along H. V Dela Costa St. Bgy. Bel Air that resulted in the arrest of the suspect.

Police recovered from Co the watch from his left wrist, a cal. 40 pistol with magazine loaded with nine ammunition, a mobile phone and assorted ID cards with his pictures but with different names.

Maj. Ines said the suspect nearly eluded arrest after security guard Mirabueno tried to intervene and held the arm of one of the operatives prompting them to place him under arrest and charge for obstruction of justice.
