ACTING Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna yesterday led the clearing  of street vendors in Divisoria and confiscated over 5.2 tons of raw meat worth P10 million that were illegally imported from China.

Lacuna, accompanied by City Engineer Armand Andres, went to Divisoria after receiving reports that some vendors occupied again the streets. Lacuna was designated as acting mayor while Mayor Isko Moreno is on official trip abroad.

“May gobyerno na sa Maynila, kaya ‘wag silang magkakamali,” Lacuna warned.

A raid in nine storage houses in Juan Luna Street in District 2 yielded around 5.2 tons of illegally imported meat from China which includes Peking duck, black chicken and dimsum products which were either expired or nearly expired.

Lacuna said they received information that the illegal meat were being sold in the markets.

The owners of the warehouses are still being established. However, a Chinese national was brought for questioning at the Manila Police District-Station 1 when he was caught in the act of delivering meat in one of the warehouses visited by the authorities.
