A 27-year-old waiter was nabbed in a follow-up operation conducted by the Manila Police District (MPD) after he claimed to be a cousin of the cab passenger who recently left behind a bag containing dollars in Ermita, Manila and managed to get the said bag.
Now in the custody of the MPD-Theft and Robbery section (TRS) suspect Martin John Arinas, of 214 Plaza Tower located at 1175 Guerrero St., Ermita.
A report at the office of Chief Insp. Eduardo Pama, chief of the MPD-TRS, said that passenger Francis Termario boarded an airport taxi being driven by Ramil Saraga at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 in Parañaque and asked to be brought to the Plaza Tower in Ermita at past 12 a.m.
Once the destination had been reached, an unidentified man approached Termario, asking for money so he could buy coffee. Once Termario’s luggage were unloaded, the taxi driver headed back to NAIA.
While cruising along Roxas Boulevard, Saraga noticed that a black backpack was left behind, so he immediately turned around and returned to Plaza Tower where Arinas met him and told him to leave the said bag with him (Arinas), claiming that Termario is his cousin. Saraga agreed but got the full name of Arinas first.
The following day, Saraga said he was surprised when Termario went to the taxi terminal at the NAIA Terminal 1, looking for him.
Saraga told Termario what happened and the two headed to the MPD-Station 5. Efforts to locate the suspect were futile, until the victim sought help from the office of Chief Insp. Pama.
The suspect was later found loitering near the Plaza Tower and the bag was recovered from him, although the $5,300 or about P200,000 worth of dollars inside were no longer recovered.
