Woman, 60, dies in Pasig fire, 5 injured

A sexagenarian woman died while five members of her family were injured when a fire broke out in a two-storey residential commercial building in Pasig City shortly after the celebration of New Year  early morning yesterday.

Superintendent Aristotle Banaga/Pasig City Fire Marshal, identified the casualty as Josephina Araniadar, 60.She was declared dead upon arrival at the Holy Life Hospital due to  smoke inhalation or severe suffocation.

Also injured were members of her family identified as Jassi Maria  Araniadar Jessica, 33 ; and three minors identified as  Xandrea Valenton, 11, sister; Sophia, 7 and brother Ruel, 1 who were rushed and still confined at the Pasig City General Hospital and Misson Hospital also due to suffocation.

Based on initial investigation the blaze started at around 3:35 a.m. yesterday at the residential commercial building owned by elder Araniadar located in Taniman Avenue cor Bayabas St., Napico, Barangay Manggahan, Pasig City.

Banaga said, family  members were sleeping at the second floor of their house after celebrating New Year when the fire broke out.

The fire started at the ground floor where tiangges of the family were  located.

A resident saw the burning house prompted and called the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-Pasig City).

The residents  were suddenly  awakened they saw thick smoke and flames had already engulfed the whole house.

The victims were  trapped inside their burning house.When fire-fighters arrived they were able to rescue the victims.
