AGENTS of the National Capital Region Police Office-Regional Special Operations Unit on Tuesday evening arrested a female robbery-extortion suspect during an entrapment operation inside the Gateway Mall in Cubao, Quezon City, NCRPO chief, Major General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said yesterday.
Eleazar said that suspect Chloe Sarisna Peralta, a 35-year old resident of 1053 Kmias Street, Napovo, Mangahan, Pasig City was caught during the sting at Gateway’s food court around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The official said the operation stemmed from a complaint from Imee Buena Parpan, a buyer of a motor vehicle who claimed that the suspect’s group swindled and extorted money from her.
An investigation revealed that sometime last August the victim was offered a repossessed Toyota Grandia by one Eric Sancho who claimed to have a direct contact with the manager of Toyota Pasong Tamo.
Last September 17, Ms. Parpan received an SMS from a person who introduced herself as Chloe Peralta, informing her that her application to buy a repossessed car at Toyota Pasong Tamo has been approved and she needs to deposit P250,000 to the Bank of Philippine Island BPI account of Francis Jalbert Angeles.
The text sender told her to deposit the amount to account number 009619-0741-11 as initial payment for the vehicle whose total price is P850,000.
Eleazar said that the woman did what she was told the following day and waited for the release of the van which was being ‘reconditioned’ to make it really roadworthy prior to its release.
Last September 25, Eleazar said that Mrs. Peralta and her husband Wynebert Peralta demanded the remaining balance of P600,000 from the complainant.
