A SMASH-UP of 8 vehicles on Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City yesterday morning killed a female motorcycle rider and injured a UV Express driver.
Mandaluyong Police chief PCol. Remigio Sedanto identified the fatality as Grace Ann Pajemago, 25, of No. 853 Guinhawa St., Bgy. Barangka Drive, Mandaluyong City.
Sedanto said Pajemago sustained broken skull and bones when pinned by a passenger jeepney and UV vehicle.
The injured victim identified as Benjamin Celestra Jr. was rushed to the Mandaluyong City Medical Center.
The accident transpired along eastbound lane of Shaw Boulevard near Sheridan Street, Bgy. Highway Hills at around 8:15 a.m.
Wilfredo Gigante, 28, of Binangonan, Rizal told police he was driving his passenger jeepney along Shaw Blvd. heading towards Pasig City when, on reaching the flyover, his brakes malfunctioned and he lost control of the vehicle.
The jeepney collided with a Subaru Sedan Hatchback and hit a Nissan Almera and the Yamaha Mio driven by Pajemago.
Police said other vehicles including a Subaru Sedan, Totoya Hi-Ace, Mitsubishi Outlander, Toyota Innova and another passenger jeepney got caught in the crash.
According to Sedanto, Pajemago was pinned or “sandwiched” between Gigante’s jeepney and one of the other vehicles in the mishap.
Gigante faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury and damage to property.
