Worker falls from tricycle, dies

A homebound factory worker who just finished drinking with his two friends died after he accidentally fell from a tricycle in Marikina City on Thursday, police said yesterday.

Reports reaching Eastern Police District (EPD) identified  the victim as Carlos Samaniego, married and resident of  No. 72  Sumulong St., Bgy. Parang, Marikina City.

Samaniego died while undergoing treatment at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center (ARMMC) due to head and back injuries.

PCpl Kenneth Joy  Mercado, of the Marikina Police Station said the incident took place along Balagtas St., Bgy Marikina Heights at around 4 a.m.

Mercado said  the victim just came from a drinking spree with his friends identified as Rainier Magsanoc, 41, and John Michael Estal, 34 both overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

“Galing silang tatlo sa inuman at papauwi na nung mangyari yung aksidente, akala nung dalawang kasamahan hindi sasakay yung biktima nung pumara sila ng tricycle pero humabol pala,” the prober added.

Police said the victim sat behind the tricycle driver.

Upon reaching Balagtas Street, the victim accidentally fell from the tricycle.

“Paakyat kasi yung kalsada na binabagtas ng tricycle, tapos ilang minuto biglang  nahulog yung biktima na nakaupo sa likuran ng sasakyan,” police said.

The driver pulled over his tricycle and informed the victims’ companion about the incident who then alighted to check  him.

While his companions were checking the victim who slumped bloodied on the street, the driver hurriedly drove his tricycle and left them.

Marikina City Rescue 161 arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to the hospital. However he died at around 1:36 p.m.
