Worried over employees’ wages, 13th month pay, firm exec shoots self

A 67-year-old manager of a private company reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the head yesterday in Sta. Mesa, Manila, allegedly over financial problems.

Marcelo Manuel Jr.,  general manager of Quatech, Industrial Agency and residing at 615 Bautista St., Pasay City, was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Initial probe by SPO3 Jonathan Bautista of the Manila Police District-Homicide Section said the victim was found dead at 12:15 p.m. inside the comfort room of Room 308, SCC Building, CFA compound in Old Sta. Mesa, Manila.

Witness Eleonor Robles, project manager of the company, told probers that she saw the victim enter the comfort room of their office and later heard strange noises which she ignored.

When asked by their administration manager Marloc Palicpic where the victim was, she pointed to the comfort room and then they heard a shot.

They began knocking at the door and when they got no response, they decided to open it and saw the victim full of blood and slumped inside. Found beside him were a .9mm gun and a spent shell.

The victim’s wife told police that her husband had been problematic about money to pay their employees and give them their 13th month pay. She also confirmed that the victim had two licensed guns.
