A PHILIPPINE National Police Academy (PNPA) cadet died reportedly due to electrolyte imbalance on Friday morning, making her the 2nd to die while undergoing training at the country’s premier police training institution this week and triggering the suspension of all strenous physical activities for members of PNPA Class 2024, the Journal Group learned yesterday.
According to PNP spokesman Brig. General Bernard Banac, based on the logbook of Cadet fourth Class Jiary Jasen Papa, she requested permission to go to the comfort room at around 2:00 am and later went back to sleep.
After an hour, she woke up to prepare for early morning activity but suddenly collapsed beside her bunks.
The cadet was immediately brought to the Academy Health Service by duty cadets to give first aid.
She was rushed to Qualimed Hospital in Sta Rosa, Laguna by the AHS staff for full medical attention but at around 4:43 am , Cadet Papa was declared dead by attending physician.

Banac said the PNPA Medical Doctor and Administration informed her parents about the unfortunate incident and assured that they will receive the financial assistance due to new members of the PNPA Cadetship Program, including insurance protection and benefits from the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc (PSMBFI).
The Academy Health Service also noted that the cadaver will undergo swab test of COVID-19 infection as part of health protocols.
Meanwhile, PNPA Director Police Major General Jose Chiquito Malayo said that since two deaths of new cadets were recorded in the past three days, all activities for the members of the PNPA Class of 2024 will be suspended until further evaluation and assessment.
It can be recalled that on July 7, Patrolman William Villarosa , a trainee of PNP- Special Action Forced Commando died while undergoing map and land navigation exercise in Barangay Baha, Calatagan Batangas.
He was found unconscious som 500 meters away from SAF Training Branch Annex Admin Building.
