AN estimated 55-60 percent Filipino-Americans have voted for Democrat Joe Biden, Philippine Ambassador to Washington Jose Manuel Romualdez said yesterday.
In an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel, Romualdez said “the estimate will be a little over 55 or 60 percent probably voted for Biden, mostly living in California, where it’s one of the biggest Filipino community there and it’s known to be a Democrat bailiwick.”
Romualdez added “but here in the Northeast and South, there are a number of Filipinos who voted for (incumbent President Donald) Trump.”
As of June 30, 2020, Foreign Affairs data shows the total number of Filipinos in the US is 4,061,561.
Romualdez also said the Philippine embassy already sent a congratulatory message to Biden for his victory.
He said the embassy thanked Biden and his running mate, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris for expressing their sympathies to the Philippines due to the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Rolly (international name Goni).
“We sent a message to him congratulating him but at the same time we thanked him a couple of days ago,” Romualdez said.
“He and Kamala Harris expressed their sympathy to the Philippines with the recent typhoon so we sent a message and they sent back a message thanking us,” he added.
