THE Pasig City Regional Trial Court yesterday found the brother of the late Abu Sayyaf leader Khaddafy Janjalani guilty of the abduction of public school teachers and school children in Basilan in 2000.

Sentenced to reclusion perpetua, or up to 40 years in prison, without the possibility of parole for every count was Hector Janjalani.

He was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of 18 counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention.

Likewise, the court found his co-accused Daud Baru alias “Dad Daim” also guilty of 52 counts of kidnapping.

They were ordered to pay each of their victims P180,000 in damages.

The Department of Justice said the accused were Abu Sayyaf who abducted the public school teachers and school children and held them captive in Sampinit Mountain until they were rescued by authorities.
